Dear Parent:

The Roane County Health Department and the Roane County School System are partnering to provide seasonal influenza (flu) vaccinations for your child.  Please see the attached schedule to see where would be the most convenient location for you.  Any child from any school may attend any of the clinics located at an elementary school.  You are not limited to the city where your child attends school.  There is no out of pocket cost to you for this vaccine.  This vaccination is being offered to you completely free.

Health department nurses will vaccinate children using one type of vaccine:  injectable (shot).  The FluMist will NOT be available at these clinics.

If your child is under the age of 9 and this is the first time your child has ever received a flu vaccine, a second dose is required and should be administered a minimum of four weeks following the initial dose.  Arrangements for receiving this second dose can be made by calling the Roane County Health Department @ 865-354-1220.

This service is being offered to decrease the impact of seasonal flu in our communities and to decrease school absenteeism.

Also, if you would like to receive the flu vaccination at the same time as your child, we will be able to offer this service to you as well.

If you have any questions, please call the Roane County Health Department at 865-354-1220.

Sincerely,

Amy Wood, RN

Nursing Supervisor
